‘24 Front Grille on ‘21-23 Model

Well, here it is. Fitment was a 100% compatible. If you haven’t seen it done, taking off the front bumper is a pain in the ass! Now for the downside. I get the radar error message after 10-20 min of driving the car. Says, “some features are unavailable, radar is obstructed”
Once that kicks in, I still get the warning if I’m too close to a curb or in a parking lot, if I get too close to a car. Once I turn off the car off and turn it back on, it will work fine again up until 10 or 20 min. I always turn off the pre-collision system (I find it annoying). I talked to my service rep at the local dealer, he said maybe I could try to recalibrate the radar. Only downside is (and we’re both not sure) if it fails during the process, then I’m screwed. It will remain unavailable. Asked if maybe he can reach out to corp Honda, but as we both figured, they probably won’t want to answer this type of question. So, he said he’ll ask around to a top tech he’s cool with and see if he might have a clear answer. We’ll see…

Looks good! I am in the minority here, but I actually don't think the 21-23 Type S grill looks bad. I really don't mind the plastic piece over the Acura logo.

I think the 24' is "cleaner" looking, but I personally wouldn't go through all that effort for an emblem with no plastic over it.

So the new A radar cover is an obstruction to the 21-23 radar?

How do you have the radar mounted? Is it mounted in the original position or the new position directly behind the A cover?

The cover/shield is used to properly focus/aim the signals from the radar. I learned that from my previous Lexus RC 350. On that car, the emblem fades and looks nasty after a few years. A replacement was $300+ and wondered why a simple emblem was so much? That's when I learned it's purpose was more than just an emblem.

Like I mentioned, it might just needs to be recalibrated. Even after the error kicks in, all the warnings that I care about still come on. I could live with it.

That didn't move. It's still in the same spot.

Please keep us updated! How much was the '24 grille? I could see a lot of 21-23 guys going for this if the radar can be recalibrated to work properly. Out of all the MY24 tweaks this is the only one I was kind of jealous of, I don't mind the radar plate that much buuut I could see myself swapping it out as this does look a bit nicer.

Looks great! Could you please post the list of part numbers required for the swap ?

Thank you.

The garnish part # is color specific. You can go to the dreamgarage site and lookup the part listing for the ‘24 and find your color code for the part number. Going to a local shop on Monday (if it doesn’t rain) to see if they can correct the radar issue.

Do you think the new 24 radar unit would work with the focuser/badge? Or not even be recognized by the ECU assuming you could splice the connector? I'd assume it's too expensive to buy and try to frankenstein in there.

When I was doing my research, I noticed the radar part# was different for the ‘24 compared to the ‘21-23. That was one of my concerns if my radar unit would be compatible with the new shield/badge. The radar unit is $800. Ironically, the two features that are unavailable are the two that I turn off anyway. Only thing I have to deal with is the error message and the icon that is shown. Weather permitting, I’m going to a ADAS shop on Monday and see if all it needs is calibrating.

Nope. Shop wouldn't even attempt it. Not going to work though. The radar box from the '23 is not compatible with the new '24 front shield/badge. I ended up changing it back a couple of weeks ago when I installed the PRL intercooler and charge pipe kit.

Either grill is fine. I don't think you gain or lose anything from having either grille. Other than the sensors not being compatible with a switch. The TLX is great from all angles to look at.

That sucks. Having normal A emblem on the grille is much nicer than the plastic rectangle

Yup! Also, the '24 grille is gloss. Loved how it stood out. Should have had the original grille painted in gloss before I put it back on. Oh well.

Unfortunately, your front radar will not work now. Even through recalibration. Acura explained that the whole reason that extra plaque was on the grill was to accommodate the radar tech. With the 2024, the moved that technology up the windshield. So while the fitment of the front works, I'm afraid the tech will not play nicely with it. Looks good though, if that's any consolation.

Can someone post the details from the Facebook post? I don’t have FB so the link doesn’t help me.

So he made a custom bracket to have the radar sit closer to the shield. He had to trim the back portion of the grill to keep it from hitting the radar. Since the shield is wider on the 21-23, having the radar sit closer to the smaller ‘24 shield helps retain the same field of view. He says no issues so far compared to the user on Acurazine (He means me &#128514

So the shield acts as a collector dish but the focal length is different? The 24 probably doesn't mount the sensor in a different location, but maybe someone can measure the distance to the grille. That means is not an easy thing to calculate. The person who made it work isn't getting dashboard errors but is the system functioning as intended?

He did get it working without errors, but he had to make a special custom bracket and he also disconnected the 360 camera (Canadian version), so that is no longer working on his model. He also said with everything he did to get it up working properly was getting quite expensive. I am posting the convo from the FB group here, but I have removed names as its a private group and I don't feel right posting someone else's name.

Bummer he lost the front camera though. I'd take retrofitting the 360 camera over the smaller emblem anyday.
